How to enter keywords in Squarespace?
Keywords, or keywords, are an important part of SEO. Here are 5 places you should put keywords on your website in Squarespace.
The first thing you need to do, of course, is to find out which keywords you want to be visible on. This is the first step in an SEO strategy, where the trick is to choose keywords that many people are searching for, that are relevant and that you can realistically rank for. But that's another discussion, which you can find out more about on our SEO pages.
Once the strategy is set and the keywords defined, you need to implement them on your website:
7 places you should enter keywords in Squarespace
SEO title and SEO description: Next to the name of the page, click the gear and select the tab "SEO" in the pop-up. Here you can enter the title and description that will appear in the search engine results page (SERP).
Headings on the page: Headings should always contain keywords. H1 is the main heading, and it's a good idea to use good H2 and H3 as well. This is what you see in the text formatting and says something about the hierarchy of the headings.
In the text: It's a good idea to include keywords within the first 100 words of your landing page. But make sure you don't repeat the keyword too many times, as this can affect readability and be perceived as keyword stuffing.
The URL: The actual link or address to the subpage. Next to the name of your page in the list, click the gear. In the "URL slug" field, you can enter a good URL that contains keywords.
Alt text on images: Alternative text allows search engines and tools for the visually impaired to "read" what an image shows. Click on the image, select pencil to edit, enter text describing the image in the "Image Alt Text" field. More about images and SEO in Squarespace.
NB: Don't overdo it!
Two things to keep in mind when working with keywords:
Avoid keyword stuffing, i.e. making your site so full of keywords that it becomes cluttered or appears frivolous. As they say, everything in moderation.
Avoid keyword cannibalization, which means that several subpages on your website compete to rank for the same keywords or phrases. One will then kill the other because you are competing with yourself. It's important to remember that each subpage should have a unique set of keywords that are relevant to that particular subpage.
