Three great new features from Squarespace

Get background video on your website, create new subpages in 1-2-3 and serve your customers blog posts that load four times faster on mobile!

1. Background video on the website

Comprehensive background videos are now available in most templates in Squarespace. This is long awaited! With a video that runs in a loop, you get a dynamic effect that creates nice life on the website. The videos play without sound and do not make the page heavier to load.

All you need is a URL from Youtube or Vimeo. You can choose from a selection of filters, add overlay colors and control the speed of playback. These tools allow you to fine-tune the mood, atmosphere and visual experience you want to give your customers.

2. Design help on subpages/landing pages

Squarespace now gives you more choices when building a new subpage or landing page. This means that you can design a nice subpage in 1-2-3 using ready-made templates.

You can choose a blank page as before, and build it up from scratch. But if you want help with the design, this is now set up for you. You click to edit images and text in the boxes - and can of course delete the elements you don't want, add elements or move them around as you wish. Simple and user-friendly.

This is how you can gather inspiration and help to design subpages like a pro!

3. AMP pages that load 4 times faster on mobile

Squarespace recently announced that they now support Google's open source Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP). This may be for those with a special interest, but it's a good thing for those of you who are keen to provide mobile-friendly pages to your customers.

With AMP, blog posts will be stripped of all noise other than the actual content of the blog. This applies when you open the blog post on mobile. If your customers search for something in Google and find your blog post, they will see a simple and clean version of the blog - without logos, menus, advertisements and other noise that can slow down the loading time.

Fast websites are becoming more and more important. Even a delay of a few seconds can cost you page views and engagement. AMP pages will give your customers blog posts that load significantly faster. Google estimates that the average loading time is four times faster and uses 10 times less data than a non-AMP page.

In other words, just produce relevant blog posts - and talk to us if you want your posts to be optimized for mobile. It's a simple operation.
