If you're considering moving your website to a more modern publishing tool, there's always a risk that you could lose ranking in search engines like Google. But by doing a solid job, you can also experience the opposite, as Kviknes hotel experienced.

Squarespace keeps up with Google's changes and is known to be a good system for you to work effectively with search engine optimization (SEO). By following our best practice during the transition, we are confident that you will experience growth in website visits.

Before you move to Squarespace

The main reason why you may lose your Google ranking is that you change the address structure (URL) of your subpages. Customers and others often link to your pages, and this change can affect your ranking. That's why it's important that we review the URLs carefully. Pages with a new URL should have a so-called "301 redirect" that notifies search engines that the URL has changed.

Domain retention

It is important to keep the domain. If the domain is located at Domeneshop, for example, it can only remain there. We only need access to change the DNS to direct traffic to the site. Think twice before you change to a new main domain.

Layer 404 page

If a customer enters the wrong address in their browser, or has a link to an old blog post without a 301 redirect, it's important that the user arrives at a page that makes it easy for them to continue. This is called a 404 page and is something we create as part of a web project.

Google Search Console

Once the content has been uploaded and the URLs have been checked, we register the pages in Google Analytics and Google Search Console, thereby requesting that Google indexes the pages.

Course in SEO

Working with search engine optimization (SEO) has become less technically complicated. In our introductory course in Squarespace, we provide tips on specific measures you should take when producing content for your website.

No need to wait

We have experience from over 200 websites that have been migrated to Squarespace. We can't give any guarantees, but for the vast majority, the conversion to a new site is a solid success. As it was for Kviknes hotel:

"In the period Jan-April 2016, we had 48% growth in visits to www.kviknes.no. Squarespace is also incredibly easy to work in and has saved me a lot of time."
