7 reasons why you should invest in a new website

In many cases, the website is the first encounter with the company. If you feel any of these reasons apply to you, it's probably time for a new website:

1. Website has expired

Today, technology is changing rapidly and so are customer expectations. We see that there are still many websites that are not good on mobile or tablet. As early as 2015, mobile overtook desktop as the largest search platform in Google. This has meant that Google sees mobile-friendliness as important for your ranking on Google. Today, it is crucial that websites are responsive, i.e. adapted to mobile and tablet devices.

Another key element for Google is that websites are quick to load. Google loves fast websites. Fortunately, with a publishing tool like Squarespace, you rarely have to worry about the speed of your website.

Squarespace is constantly working to ensure that modules and processes are fast, so that you rank high in search engines without having to sacrifice much thought. But note that it's your responsibility to make sure that the photos you upload to the website are not too heavy!

However, the customer experience is the most important factor if you want to convert visitors into leads. If your website isn't user-friendly on mobile, you're likely to exclude 50-60 percent of searchers.

2. Insecure websites

Today, website security is more important than ever, and so far in 2020, the number of data breaches has increased by over 50 percent. This shows how important it is to take website security seriously. For most companies, this is work that they outsource to other players, or use very limited resources themselves. This is often something you don't care about until the accident happens.

So it's important to have an updated website on secure servers that have the resources and ability to prevent security threats. While many people have their websites stored on their own servers, we at Gasta chose to leave this to Squarespace.

Squarespace operates a web host with several million websites (we don't know the exact number!), and works dedicatedly and purposefully to ensure the security of the websites and the content that is there. Squarespace's expertise and resources in online security mean that we can safely leave the web hosting to those who are experts in this. This makes it much safer for you as a customer, and we can work with what we really know - websites!

Unlike other publishing tools such as WordPress, Squarespace is not built up with plugins, which makes the tool easier to operate and you are not dependent on plugin suppliers having upgraded software.

3. The website gives a poor first impression

If you don't update your website at regular intervals, you often run the risk of your website being outdated in relation to current design trends. For many people, it's easy to see the difference between websites created in 2016 and those designed in 2020.

You can think of the website as the front of a house. It's often what creates the first impression of your business. If the front of the house has poor measurements, an unkempt lawn and lots of weeds, it creates a very negative first impression, and most likely the willingness to buy something in the house is greatly reduced.

4. You change your target group

For many businesses, there comes a time when they realize they need to change their target audience. Whether it's to make it more specific, broader or change the entire demographic, it's important to adapt the website accordingly. You must always make sure that you adapt your website to the target group you are trying to reach and create a connection between the target group and the product you offer. Different age groups, geographies and cultures have different preferences when it comes to visuals, text, images, interaction, keywords, etc.

5. You make a change in your brand

Sometimes the market changes and you need to make changes to your brand. Then it may be a solution to rebrand to get a fresh start and change the impression of the company. Perhaps it's about the company's values, brand platform and visual identity. This means that the website must change and communicate the new brand.

6. The website does not achieve business goals

Perhaps the company has a website that has worked, but has changed recently and the conversion rate is going in the wrong direction. It's not uncommon for websites to 'stop' working effectively. Many of the reasons have been mentioned above, but it's also a matter of things changing over time.

Low conversion rates and problems reaching the KPIs you used to achieve are among the clearest signs that you need a new website or a renovation.

7. It is too time-consuming to maintain the website

For many companies, keeping their website up to date is time-consuming. It may be that the publishing tool is too cumbersome or that the training has not been sufficient.

Gasta are passionate about working with simple tools. Squarespace is considered the easiest publishing tool to use, and we strongly believe that a simple and rational publishing tool is the key to success with websites.
