The tool that makes it easy to convert to Squarespace 7.1

Squarespace has launched a tool that makes conversion from version 7.0 to 7.1 much faster!

7.1 is the new Squarespace platform we use to create websites today. Squarespace was clear that it was not going to be technically possible to automatically convert from 7.0 to 7.1. Until now, we have therefore upgraded customers completely manually with copy/paste, and that takes time.

But not anymore.

With the new tool, everything goes much faster:

  • With the conversion tool, all pages with photos, text, video and settings are transferred to the new version

  • Once the website is converted, we manually adjust the design, menus, customize coding, etc.

Why upgrade to 7.1?

  • If you have an "older" website based on 7.0, you should consider converting it. Squarespace (and Gasta) will provide support for all websites on 7.0, but it is on Squarespace 7.1 that new features will be launched.

  • In 7.1, you have access to Fluid Engine, Squarespace's newest drag & drop editing tool. This makes it easier to work with your content, as you can move elements exactly where you want.

  • Version 7.1 is best for you if you are interested in search engine optimization and want to be found on search engines.

  • In addition, you can save sections you have created so that you can use them in multiple places on the website (labor-saving!).

  • 7.1 is better on mobile, as you can adjust the mobile view without changes affecting the desktop version.

  • Squarespace 7.1 has improved accessibility support.

What does a conversion cost?

It depends a little on the type of website you have, whether there's a lot of code on the page and what your menu structure is like. But based on experience, we see that such a job is around 4-7 hours (NOK 5,000 - 8,750 + VAT). PS! The monthly license and support costs will remain the same.

More questions and answers:

  • Squarespace 7.1 is a completely new technical platform, and you can therefore not convert automatically. This is something Squarespace has chosen.

  • Yes, Squarespace 7.0 will be supported and further developed, but the pace of upgrades will be greatest on 7.1. The new course module, for example, is only available on 7.1.

  • New Squarespace 7.1 is faster, especially on mobile! The software has all-new code that's optimized for SEO. It's easier to work with SEO description, image titles and alt-text, and 7.1 has no index pages that can cause problems when searching (Google can index the "wrong" index). But note - you still need to work on content, backlinks etc:-)

  • Squarespace has stated that they will support both versions in the future. We are not stressed about this, as over 3 million websites have been created on Squarespace 7.0, and these will live on for many years.

  • We have developed many - often slightly more advanced websites - where we use Squarespace Developer Mode. We can't convert these websites without further ado. It's usually quickest to set up a new license and then copy over all the info with a tool we have. Get in touch for a price!

  • No, but there will be a few hours where the website will be adapted to 7.1. Menus and design will be adjusted and the website will therefore be "under construction" during these hours.
