How to prepare a landing page for sharing
How do you change the image and text that appears when you share an article on social media?
When you share a link to an article on a social media site such as Facebook or LinkedIn, the share will usually show the title, image and a short intro text. What appears here is controlled from your website itself, and here we tell you how to change the link sharing in Squarespace.
Change image in the link share
For blog posts, you can probably add a featured image under "Options".
This image appears on the collection page where all the articles are listed, and it is this image that automatically appears when you share the link on social media.
Sometimes you want to show a different photo on social media. Go to "Settings", select the "Social" tab and upload a new image. This image will then appear when the link is shared, without it being visible on your website itself.
Go to "Settings" and the "Social" tab to add your own photo.
Change the title and intro text in the link section
Most platforms extract the title from the title field and the intro text from the "Excerpt" field. This is the same intro text that is displayed on the collection page where all your articles are listed.
If you want to display a different title or intro text on social media, you can change this by going to "Settings" and entering a new title and intro text under the "SEO" tab.
Note that this new text will also appear in search engines such as Google, not just on social media.
Go to "Settings" and the "SEO" tab to change the title and intro text.
Share a common page?
Squarespace distinguishes between articles in the blog module and "regular pages". A regular page can, for example, be a service page or contact page.
Here it will be a little different when editing the link sharing. Hover over the page name in the main menu, click on the gear and edit the information in the "SEO" and "Social Image" tabs.
Tips: Facebook Debugger
Have you changed the image and text, but the link sharing on Facebook still shows the old information? Then we recommend that you use the Facebook Sharing Debugger tool.
Enter the URL and press "Scrape", and Facebook will retrieve the information and display the new image instead of the old one. Clever, isn't it?
