How to access free photos in Squarespace
Need an image for your website, but don't have one on your disk?
No need to despair, Unsplash is directly linked to Squarespace. Here you'll find around 850,000 photos you can use - and they're completely free. At the touch of a button, you can upload a photo while editing a gallery, a page or a news article.
How to find photos in Squarespace:
Step 1:
Click on the plus sign to access all the blocks in Squarespace. Here you click on "Image".
Step 2:
Then click on the field "Add an Image"
Free image:
This will bring up a new menu where you can choose between "My library", "Free" and "Premium". Click on "Free" and you are in Unsplash's database.
Search - in English - and find a photo that you want to add to the website. Select the image and press "Add to site".
Purchase of image:
Click on "Premium" and you're inside Unsplash's paid database.
Search - in English - and find a photo that you want to add to the website. Select the photo and press "Preview on site". You can then test the image before you pay (but it appears with a watermark). If you want this image, click on the image and select "purchase". Then you need to enter a payment card - unless you already have a payment card stored in Squarespace.
Premium costs 10 dollars
If you click on Premium, you will get access to GettyImages' database. Here you have access to millions of photos, which cost about 10 dollars per photo. Here you must enter a payment card to purchase a license.
My library = your image archive in Squarespace
The first selection in the menu is My library, which gives you an overview of all the photos you have uploaded to Squarespace. So this is where you'll find your photo archive.
Can I use stock photos freely?
Be aware that you can only use these images on your website. If you find a photo that you would like to use in a brochure or other surfaces, you will have to pay extra to GettyImages for it.
