News: Squarespace Bio Sites for social media

You may have heard the expression "link in bio"? Now Squarespace has created a solution for just that.

On some social media, such as Instagram and TikTok, you cannot share a link in the posts you publish. Here, you can only have one link in the whole, and it is visible on your profile (bio). This is the origin of the phrase "link in bio".

An example: Gasta publishes a new technical article on our website. We want to share this with our followers on Instagram. Since Instagram does not allow a link in the post, we write "see link in bio" in the post, and update the link in our profile to lead to the new article.

Replacing this link all the time can be a hassle, especially if multiple platforms are involved. This is where a bio site comes in.

What is a bio site?

In short, a bio site is a landing page that collects all links in one place. You keep the same link in your social media profile all the time, so you don't have to update it every time.

This is not a full-fledged website, but can be a nice addition for Squarespace users who are active on social media.

Designs on Bio Site

We have created a simple Bio Site for Gasta, as an example of what it looks like.

Benefits:

  • Free of charge

  • Easy to choose template, quick to set up

  • Collects all links, the user does not have to search

  • Can link out to anything

  • Quick to update with new links along the way

  • Elegant display on mobile screen

Disadvantages:

  • Template-based only, limited design choices

  • Sends traffic to bio.site/yourname instead of to your website (unless the user clicks through)

  • Doesn't look as good on desktop (but most people will visit it on mobile)
