Robust website for Robust children

If you want to promote mental health and quality of life in children and young people, you need good and accessible information. A well-designed Squarespace page is a good solution.

The project Life Mastery - Robust Children and Young People is a project between Luster and Sogndal municipalities, as part of the Norwegian Directorate of Health's program for public health work .

The main goal is to promote quality of life for children and young people, and the project is now in a phase where schools and kindergartens will test out specific measures.

– We chose to publish the website quite early in the project, so that we could post teaching materials and get feedback on the work along the way. We therefore launched the website when the design and structure were in place, but before all the content was finished, says project manager Marte Kvisterø Krogstadmo.

– I'm glad we did it this way. We get useful feedback, both on user-friendliness and content, so we can adjust the content along the way. This is development work over time, so it's important for us to have the opportunity to improve and change the content, she says.

A good structure for a lot of content

The website will provide information to parents, school and kindergarten staff, and the children themselves. They will be able to find information, teaching materials, and specific tasks. The information is divided by theme, and all themes are divided and adapted to different age levels.

In other words, there is a lot of information to navigate through. This requires good structure, smart linking between pages, and a clear menu.

Kvisterø Krogstadmo is pleased that they went with a Squarespace site. The tool is easy to use, while also providing good opportunities for building a sensible structure.

– After that Gasta set up the design, framework and structure for us, and gave us training in the tool, it is easy for us to add more content. I can handle small adjustments myself, and if there are major changes it is good to have Gasta as support. But you don't have to be a computer expert to work at Squarespace.

Many chefs in action

Today, Marte has three educators who create teaching materials and one who creates content for parent collaboration. There are many chefs, but since there is so much material to produce, she is dependent on any help she can get.

 – All follow specific templates on the website, set up together with Gasta . Here they fill in information in the form of text, images, videos, PDFs and fact boxes. By following the templates in this way, the layout is largely the same across the page. After they have entered the content, most of it goes through a language check before I quality-assure the content and publish it, explains the project manager.

– I have received a lot of good feedback. Both employees at the kindergarten and school say that the site is clear, easy to navigate and, not least, nice to look at, she adds with satisfaction.

The website has many target groups. The groups are distinguished both by different colors and by their own illustrations (which were drawn for this project).
