New websites? Think simple - think Squarespace
Gasta develops thoughtful websites that are easy to update - like this one for Ålhytta as.
Squarespace is simply a brilliant tool, both for us as developers and designers - and for you as a user.
Squarespace is what we call a content management system (CMS), or a publishing tool. If you're unfamiliar with Squarespace, you may have heard of Wordpress, Joomla or DotNetNuke. They are all different CMS. We've used DotNetNuke and WordPress for a long time, but have never been more satisfied than now.
Having used Squarespace for over four years and developed over 450 websites in this software, there are four things in particular that we find our customers emphasize:
1. Inline editing
When you want to update content on the website, you click directly where you want to edit. You always see all the content and you don't need a preview, as in WordPress, for example. This makes it easy to move things around and see directly how the elements will be in relation to each other before you save - which is practical when the site is live. Inline editing is the technical term, if you're interested:-)
2. Drag and drop
If you're setting up or editing a page, it's done using drag and drop. You bring in the elements you want and move them around. You can have images in, above, below or to the side of the text. Take the image and drag it larger or smaller. When you're satisfied, press save and it will be published directly. It couldn't be simpler - and you can see it in this video!
3. A supplier
Another advantage of Squarespace is that all functions are controlled by the same supplier. There are no plugins supplied by different subcontractors. So you know that it works when you work with the website.
4. Squarespace is flexible
First and foremost, it is a software with great flexibility. In the first instance, you can easily customize the design in a template. Enter the menu under design and set colors, fonts and sizes.
At the next level, we have what is called CSS coding. If you want changes beyond what the template offers, one of our developers can go in and recode. You can move boxes, change menu colors, add frames and add more functions.
At the top level you have developer mode. There are virtually no limitations here. In most of the projects we develop, we use Squarespace Developer Mode.
