ZEM – rebranding and website for the pioneer in zero-emission maritime technology
When growth comes quickly, branding, design, and communication often get deprioritized. That was also the case at ZEM.
The company based in Høvik is a world-leading system integrator of electric and hybrid propulsion systems for the maritime sector. In recent years, the company has experienced strong growth, from 31 to 298 million kroner in turnover in just five years.
Despite the impressive growth, the brand promise was unclear. There was neither a clear visual profile nor a defined color palette. Before work on the new website began, important groundwork was therefore done with rebranding and visual identity.
In 2025, we launched new websites for ZEM – based on a clearer brand foundation and a more holistic visual expression.
The starting point before we started the project:
Rebranding and 3D visualization
In collaboration with Studio Riis and Katinka von der Lippe, a process of rebranding and productization of the services was carried out - and not least, Studio Riis has produced 3D visualizations of the products:
New websites in Squarespace
The existing logo was continued, a new color palette and a new web design were developed.
The web design focuses on ensuring that the target group quickly gets an overview of “The ZEM Solution” and the areas of use or “applications” where their technology is used.
The design is simple and neat, with a focus on sections, which the customer can easily change and edit using Squarespace's Saved Sections feature .
New brand promise
The new website also introduced a new brand promise “Powering the green maritime future” and a short core story “ZEM is the world’s leading integrator of marine electric and hybrid drivelines”.
