“About us” is more important than you think

This page is often one of the most visited on your entire website, and perhaps the most important. Here are some tips on what a good “About Us” page should contain.

For some companies, the “About Us” page is something you create in passing. A little bit about the history, maybe a picture of the employees, and that’s it. But we in Gasta We see that this is often among the most visited pages on websites we create. Therefore, it is also among the most important.

Why is the page important?

When a potential customer is considering contacting you, it’s all about trust. They want to know who you are and whether you can be trusted. The “About Us” page is often where this impression is formed. If the page is vague, general, or outdated, it creates uncertainty. And uncertainty makes it harder to choose you.

Often, your “About Us” page reflects your brand. If it’s unclear or general, it’s often because your brand isn’t clearly defined either. Maybe your positioning isn’t clear.

When your company is asked to explain who you are and why you exist, it quickly becomes clear whether you actually have the answers ready. Therefore, this page is also a good test of how well you know yourself.

This is what a good "About Us" page should contain

A good website provides clear answers. It makes it easy to understand who you are, what you offer, and why you are a good choice. It is relevant to the target audience, credible in what it says, and personal enough to create a relationship.

In short: It makes it easier for the customer to choose you.

Then they have to offer a little bit of themselves:

  • Bring pictures of the company. Show the employees, preferably situational pictures from everyday life.

  • Show what problems they can solve

  • Explain how they work and what customers can expect along the way.

  • Show the competence of the team and how they work together

  • Bring relevant certifications.

  • Talk about values and sustainability in an honest and humane way

Don't make your "About Us" page too long. You can link to other pages, but remember that many people will come here without knowing much about you. So write as if the reader is starting from scratch.

A good example

A good example is Choppycast by Frivind, a local business in Sogndal with a global reach. They had a pretty small “About Us” page with a nice, but not very explanatory picture of the local area and the Sognefjord, and two short paragraphs about who they are and where it all started.

This was the second most visited page on the website, but it wasn't easy to understand what needs they could solve for customers. Customers didn't quite understand what they could actually offer.

We had a working meeting where we worked on text and structure. We then sent a photographer to the premises and had several situational photos taken of people at work. They didn't want profile photos of the employees, but we included text explaining what they were working on.

After a few rounds of text and design adjustments, the result was a more credible and personal page. It also made it easier for both customers and searches, including AI-based searches, to understand what Choppycast is and how it works.

People, process and profession. Plus a little bit about where they are today, compared to where they started.

Do you need to work on the “About Us” page?

Ultimately, your “About Us” page isn’t just about telling people who you are, it’s about making it easy for others to understand why they should choose you. When you can be clear, specific, and a little personal, you build trust before the first conversation even begins.
